Construction
The MEGATROPOLIS Project already exists, even if it is in our minds. It stands on the Playa and will be ready for you on your arrival at Burning Man, The Black Rock Desert, Nevada, 89412, USA But, of course there is a method to follow to Full Realisation on the Playa.
The nature of MEGATROPOLIS is simple, but very large. Each structure is designed as a simple geometric shape, easy to frame and to skin. Once built, the structures will be given a carefully chosen paintjob to bring out the inherent "large-metropolitan-building-ness" of each.
Our goal is to build as big as possible in the simplest way possible. As we only have a few short weeks to realise this project onplaya, every aspect of this build is being considered from the point of view of simplicity, maximum use of volunteer abilities and time, and speed of construction.
Aside from the dimension of simplicity and speed, our primary design constraint is safety – MEGATROPOLIS must be safe in any condition, and as such, we are forging our plans with that central goal as our prime directive.
The first step in the construction process is the Design, and this has been settled upon in consultation with a large number of experienced crew. DONE!!!!
The second step is the Engineering, and this is what we're currently working on – how can we make this project as safe as possible, and ensure delivery by the time the event starts? DONE!!!!
The third step is buying materials DONE!!!!
The fourth step is getting materials and tools to playa - WE HEAD FOR GERLACH NEXT WEEK!!
The fifth step is the build - WE'RE ON-PLAYA FROM THE 17TH!! Come and join us if you are on-playa early to help build, decorate, or otherwise contribute to the project!!
The final step is the BURN!!!! - please feel free to donate to the cost of as much fuel n pyro as we can possibly strap, glue, nail, and load onto MEGATROPOLIS so we can all cower in fear and wonder at a mighty, mind-bending burn....
